SYNOPSIS

There are places in Italy that are archetypes of the universal concept of beauty, and the hills around Siena, an iconic Tuscan landscape, are one of them. They form the backdrop of countless renaissance paintings that show undulating fields of grain overlooked by a classic Italian farmhouse or a mediaeval tower. The centre of this marvelous area is a small but significant town perched atop one of the hills, a town Pope Pius II entrusted to architect Bernardo Rossellino 500 years ago to make over as an “ideal city”, named after the pontiff: Pienza. Our journey to discover local castles, old mills and spas built over thermal springs begins here.
